How to move around in Binghamton ?
The best way to move around Binghamton is by bus! There are two bus options available, Off Campus College Transport (OCCT) and Broome County Transit (BC Transit). The bus system requires some learning of the routes and schedules, as you familiarize yourself with the city. It is always preferable for the first few weeks to ride the busses with their correspondent app or route schedule and always ask the bus driver in case of doubt. Give yourself the time to learn the functioning of the bus system, and don't be afraid of taking the wrong route, you’ll learn as you go :)
OCCT is the student run transportation service for Binghamton University students, faculty, and staff. OCCT routes go to the University Downtown Center (UDC), Innovative Technology Center (ITC), supermarkets such as Walmart, Wegmans, Target, Oakdale Mall. Then, Downtown Binghamton, NYSEG Stadium, and campus shuttle that transport students, faculty, and staff around campus. Regular busses are blue, while shuttles are green. The bus service is free of charge, but you are required to have your student ID. Busses usually start working early in the morning until midnight. However,
during summer and winter break, school buses do not run. You can visit the OCCT Schedule and Updates website, where you can see which buses you need and their time. You can also download the ETA SPOT app, a GPS bus tracker, and the B-Mobi app to your smartphone.
BC Transit is the county-run transportation service for every county resident. BC transit routes cover the entirety of the urban area of the county. The bus fare is $2 without an ID, but with a BU student ID card, you can ride the BC busses for free. Busses start working early in the morning until 8 P.M., and weekends until 5 P.M. all year long. You may visit the BC Transit website or download the DoubleMap GPS Bus Tracker app on your smartphone.
