Where Specifically is Your School Under Binghamton University?

You're admitted into Binghamton University to pursue your degree and all of a sudden you start receiving emails labeled other than simply Binghamton University. That is because Binghamton University has many colleges and administrative units under its umbrella, and various departments important for helping students with beneficial resources to help on their way to a degree. What does this mean? Your degree is the MPA, therefore your program falls under the College of Community and Public Affairs (CCPA), and you will be getting e-mails sometimes labeled under that name. Information bellow breaks down CPPA degrees and detailed information on University's location and its buildings.

Here’s what you need to know to avoid being overwhelmed prior to coming to Binghamton University.

CCPA Location

One important information for MPA students is to know that Binghamton University has three locations - the Main Campus, the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and the University Downtown Center (UDC).

The main campus and its facilities are located in Vestal, away from the downtown area. The MPA department is part of CCPA which is located at 67 Washington Street, in the Binghamton downtown area and the building where it is located is called University Downtown Centre (UDC). This is where the majority of MPA classes will take place and where your professors’ offices are located.

This information is useful to help you decide where to find your housing. For MPA students, it's easier to commute to school and to access many downtown resources if you live nearby downtown rather than renting the dorms on the main campus or housing around the main campus.

Important Info to Have on Mind Prior to Coming to Binghamton University

There are two mandatory orientations for International students that will help you understand better your University, your program, faculty members, etc.

  • International Student Orientation,

  • MPA program orientation.

In addition, Binghamton University has an office for International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) located on Floor 1R, Room 142 of Old Champlain Building on the Binghamton University's main campus. Their offices help international students to be compliant with the federal regulation that govern international students and scholars. International students can avail of ISSS services by walking in during their walk-in hours or by scheduling appointments via email. They also respond to your emails fast. Examples and abreviations of some of the mails you'll receive

B LINE: Daily Emails about events and services at University. They are sent out at certain hours in the morning. These emails are very helpful as in a very brief way, you will get to know what kind of interesting events are happening on main campuses, like screening of a movie, a play, or some job fair. Pay attention to these to stay in touch :)

MPA GSO: Graduate Student Organization. This body deals with MPA department students, making sure to be the link between them and faculty members. There are

Job Postings: Many faculty members as well as professors, will share various job postings. Once your email gets registered, the address will be placed in University listserv, and you will get emails from different administrative bodies, such as job postings.

CCPA Career and Professional Services: Various information about your professional development

Some names you will see often in your inbox - and why you shouldn't disregard them :)
