Health Resources

Your health is important! You will very quickly realize that out health care in the US is different to your home country. Once enrolled in the University, you will receive health insurance through the university. The medical plan may not cover the cost of prescription medication for pre-existing conditions. If you are currently taking prescription medication bring sufficient supplies with you or be prepared to pay for these expenses from your stipend. These are the main health resources:

Decker Student Health Services Center: he most important health resource, located within the Binghamton University Main Campus, is the primary care facility for all registered students at Binghamton University. They deliver the same type of care you would expect to get from your primary care physician. You schedule your appointment before your visit or visit during their walk-in hours. The only inconvenience is the schedule, since the Decker Center works on weekdays during regular work hours and not on weekends or evenings. View this link for details:

UHS: The largest healthcare provider in the Binghamton area, with more than 500 physicians on their Medical Staff and 60 locations to serve you. With several locations in town, this is the place to go for emergencies outside the Decker Center work hours. But first, make sure you get familiar with your health insurance plan.

Speaking of health: There are many options to keep you active in Binghamton. If you are thinking about options to stay active, make sure you chose options based on your living arrangements, that is, picking the most convenient place to reach easily. Binghamton University has a Recreational Center located on the main campus. This facility has it all: gym, pool, and many programs that are free to use based on your membership plan. The membership is not for free, and it's paid based on the plan to use it; meaning, one semester, academic year, with or without an academic break, etc.  On the other hand, if you need a place within the downtown area, there are options as well: GasLamp Gym, Riverwalk Athletic Club, Yoga Bodyshop, Planet Fitness

The most affordable gym is Planet Fitness but tricky to reach if you don't have the car. The next most affordable is Recreational Center within Binghamton University and plenty of transportation options with city or school buses.
